Sturgeon County is looking for two Economic Innovation & Growth Summer Students to support members of the Economic Innovation and Growth department with administrative duties, hosting events, data collection and analysis, documentation, and the coordination of various business retention and investment attraction related activities.  

These 14-week positions (Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm) ending August 30, 2024 are partly funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. Job Duties 

  • Collect data and conduct analysis with information from Stats Can, business retention and expansion (BRE) surveys and various sources. 
  • Professionally engage with the local and regional business community and partner audiences. 
  • Meet with the Economic Innovation and Growth team on a regular basis to provide project updates and offer input. 
  • Support the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) program through data entry, business engagement, and records management.  
  • Assist with department activities related to online, hybrid or in-person events as they arise. 
  • Support investment attraction and business retention and expansion activities and other initiatives as they arise?  
  • Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System. 
  • Provide support to County-led initiatives related to business attraction and investment promotion.

Job Qualifications and Skills  

 

  • Ability to primarily work at the Sturgeon County Centre, travel outside of the community and maintain a home-based office when required.    
  • Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service in a consistent and professional manner. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to come up with creative ideas and solutions to support Economic Development priorities.  
  • Experience working both independently and in group settings.  
  • Advanced knowledge and practical application of Microsoft Office suite, along with proficiency in GIS, Dynamics 365 applications such as SharePoint, Power BI, and CRM systems, are highly advantageous for this role.
  • Valid Alberta Class Five driver’s license is required. 
  • Priority will be given to those who are currently enrolled in a Business, Management, Marketing or related program at a recognized post-secondary educational institution.
