Sturgeon County is looking for a Land Management Assistant to provide input into and carry out tasks related to establishing the County’s Land Management Framework. The position will assist the land services team by carrying out research, recommending and drafting policy documents, and developing recommended workflow for implementation of land management processes. 

This 14-week position (Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm) ending August 30, 2024 is partly funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. Job Duties

  • Undertake research relating to municipal best practices within a land management framework. 
  • Complete a review and analysis of County planning and GIS documents in place to understand and address land management issues.
  • Develop content contributing to reports and presentations on municipal best practices.
  • Work with a team to support the creation of materials required to develop new policy frameworks, such as briefing notes, PowerPoint presentations, and other communications.
  • Develop recommendations for the land management team to present to Planning & Development Department.
  • Contribute to developing carefully considered and clearly articulated administrative recommendations to present to the County’s Leadership Team for consideration.
  • Carry out administrative tasks related to filing and digitization of land files and related agreements. 


Job Qualifications and Skills

  • Student studying planning, a related field or a degree in planning or a related field. 
  • Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience working both independently and in group settings. 
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Valid Alberta Class Five driver’s license is required.
