Sturgeon County is looking for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Student  to assist with map creation, data maintenance and quality, user training, create and maintain user self-help and orientation documentation. Complete special projects and/or provide relief for other GIS positions and duties.  This opportunity is for up to 18 weeks, ending August 30, 2024, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

This position is partly funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. Job Duties

Mapping Services

  • Create maps and interactive information dashboards.
  • Help with addressing data quality, broadband services, and land management support.
  • Respond to GIS application issues as initial contact for troubleshooting.
  • Complete special projects and/or provide relief for other GIS Services positions and duties. 

Data Support Services

  • Assist with data collection, updates, quality review, and metadata upkeep.
  • Update user self-help and orientation documentation.

Must adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.

Job Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma is a minimum requirement with preference given to candidates with some related post-secondary education.
  • Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience working both independently and in group settings. 
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of database or GIS software would be a strong asset.
  • Valid Alberta Class Five driver’s license is required.
